H&M is constituent to an number of sustainability indexes and listed in various independent rankings.  See here where we stand in indexes and rankings.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index

The H&M group is included to the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index and to its World Index. The index lists the most sustainable companies per sector based on an extensive annual assessment conducted by the independent asset managers at RobecoSAM.


RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook

The H&M group is qualified for inclusion in RobecoSAM's 2017 Sustainability Yearbook. Every year since 2004, the Sustainability Yearbook has listed the world’s most sustainable companies in each industry as determined by their score in RobecoSAM’s annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).

2016 World’s Most Ethical Companies

The H&M group is a seven time honouree as a World's Most Ethical Company®. The World’s Most Ethical Companies designation recognises those companies that have had a material impact on the way business is conducted by fostering a culture of ethics and transparency at every level of the company.

Global Compact 100 stock index

The H&M group is included in the Global Compact 100 stock index, developed by Sustainalytics. It is composed of a representative group of Global Compact companies, selected based on implementation of the ten principles and evidence of executive leadership commitment and consistent base-line profitability. The index suggests that companies exhibiting enhanced environmental, social and governance (ESG) have the potential to perform better in financial markets over time.

FTSE4Good Index

The H&M group has been independently assessed according to the FTSE4Good criteria and has satisfied requirements to become a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series. Created by the global index company FTSE Group, FTSE4Good is an equity index series that is designed to facilitate investment in companies that meet globally recognised corporate responsibility standards. Companies in the FTSE4Good Index Series have met stringent social and environmental criteria and are positioned to capitalize on the benefits of responsible business practices.

Global 100 index

The H&M group is listed in the Global 100 index of the most sustainable corporations in the world since 2008. In the 2017 index, we were ranked place 54 and as the only company in our category (specialty retail).This annual project is initiated by Corporate Knights with the aim was to highlight the global corporations which have been most proactive in managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Launched in 2005, the annual Global 100 is announced each year during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Newsweek Green Ranking

The H&M group is listed in the Newsweek Green Ranking among the 500 most sustainable companies in the world (2016: rank 63). The ranking is annually produced by the magazine Newsweek in collaboration with leading environmental research organisations.

Textile Exchange Preferred Fiber & Materials Report

The H&M group is part of Textile Exchanges yearly published report ranking users of sustainable materials, such as organic cotton and recycled polyester, in terms of volume and growth.

Sustainable Cotton Ranking

In October 2017, H&M group was ranked into the category “Leading the way” by Sustainable Cotton Ranking, a collaboration between Solidaridad, WWF and Pesticide Action Network UK.
